Healing Hands for Haiti International Foundation Inc. A Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Institution

For years, Haiti’s most vulnerable relied on the State University Hospital (HUEH) for free medical care. However, today, insecurity and under-resourced facilities have left many without access to basic healthcare. It was within this fragile system that Inose Pierre’s life changed forever.

A Life Changed

Born in 1986 and raised by a single mother after losing her father, Inose learned resilience early. At 18, she left for school full of hope, until a road accident left her critically injured. She survived, but delayed medical care caused a severe infection. As a result, doctors had no choice but to amputate her left leg.

At 18, Inose lost her leg, yet she did not lose her will to live.

Choosing Strength Over Struggle

Moving forward, life with a disability was difficult. Inose returned to school in 2007, facing physical challenges and the stares of others. Despite these obstacles, she completed her studies, proving that determination can overcome hardship.

Healing Hands for Haiti Makes Mobility Possible

Through Healing Hands for Haiti (HHH), Inose regained her ability to walk. With rehabilitation, treatment, and adaptive support, she reclaimed mobility and began rebuilding her independence. Over time, HHH adjusted and replaced her prosthesis to match her changing needs, transforming survival into renewed opportunity.

Facing New Challenges

Nevertheless, Inose’s old prosthesis no longer fits her. Daily movement, work, and independence have become harder. She studied culinary arts and computerized accounting, and even launched a small food business, but economic hardships and insecurity made sustaining it impossible.

Still, Inose smiles. She hopes. And she’s ready to take her next steps.

The Importance of Nonprofit Healthcare in Haiti

In a country where access to healthcare is limited, organizations like Healing Hands for Haiti are critical. HHH provides:

Through their work, recovery is possible, not just surviving, but thriving.

Moving Forward Together

Inose’s story shows the power of resilience and the impact of nonprofit healthcare. Through Healing Hands for Haiti, she reclaimed mobility, rebuilt independence, and began to create a life she can be proud of.

Her journey reminds us that healing is more than physical; it’s human. Together, we can help more people like Inose regain their independence and rebuild their lives.
